Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon who is globally known for being the richest man on Earth has an estimated net worth of US$129.9bn. He is the first to attain the US$100bn mark. As widely expected, major part of his revenue is generated from Amazon, a global e-commerce platform. However, through Amazon, Jeff generates only 16% of his revenue. The rest is generated from 15 other companies he owns.

Here are the companies owned by the billionaire:

  • The Washington Post
    The Washington Post, an American daily newspaper that was established in 1877, was brought under the radar of Bezos in August 2013, when his private organization Nash Holdings bought the popular newspaper.
  • Alexa
    Offering website information and analytics, Alexa was acquired by Amazon in 1999.
  • IMDb
    A subsidiary of Amazon, IMDb also known as Internet Movie Database is an online database of movies and several entertainment programmes.
  • Blue Origin
    Washington based Blue Origin is an aerospace company that Bezos established in September 2000. Generating his revenue from the sale of Amazon stocks, every year he invests US$1bn in the privately funded aerospace company.
  • Amazon Robotics
    Amazon Robotics, which was formerly known as Kiva Systems was acquired by Amazon in March 2012. At the time of acquisition, it was the second largest acquisition in Amazon’s history.
  • Zappos
    An online retail company that deals in shoes and apparels is another subsidiary of Amazon. Zappos came under Amazon in 2009.
  • DPReview
    One of the leading digital photography websites, DPReview or Digital Photography Review was founded in 1998 in the UK. Currently owned by Amazon, the company was acquired in 2007.
  • AWS Elemental
    Elemental Tech, currently known as AWS Elemental is a multi screen video solutions provider, which was acquired by Amazon Web Services in 2015. The company has its presence in the US, the UK, Russia, Hong Kong, France, Singapore, Japan, Brazil, China and India.
  • Souq.com
    An e-commerce platform in Dubai, Souq.com was acquired by Amazon last year in March. It is now called ‘Amazon of the Middle East’.
  • Whole Foods
    A food chain company based in Texas, Whole Foods was merged with Amazon after US$13.7bn deal.
  • Fabric.com
    Fabric.com, a subsidiary of Amazon is an online fabric store, which was taken over by Amazon in 2008. The brand deals in home decor, apparel, quilting, etc.
  • Goodreads
    A social cataloging website, Goodreads is a database of books that helps readers to find anything related to books. Founded in 2007, the company was acquired by Amazon in 2013.
  • Woot.com
    Merged with Amazon in 2010, Woot.com provides daily deals in electronics, home, sports goods, computers and others.
  • Audible
    An online provider of audio entertainment, information, and educational programming, Audible deals in digital audiobooks, radio & TV programs, and audio versions of magazines and newspapers. Amazon bought the company under its banner in 2008 after an acquisition of US$300bn worth.
  • Twitch
    Twitch is an online video streaming platform that was established in 2011. Amazon took over the company after striking a US$970 million deal in August 2014.
