Daughter of the US President, Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, who are also the advisors of the White House, have arrived in Israel for today’s inauguration of the new US embassy in Jerusalem – a decision that was vehemently criticised by Israelis.

The decision of making Jerusalem the capital of Israel and moving the US embassy to the capital city from Tel Aviv was pronounced by the US President Donald Trump last year in December. While Israel considers Jerusalem as its ‘eternal and undivided’ capital, the Palestinians consider East Jerusalem as their capital. The announcement in December gave rise to serious protests all across the country. Now, with the US shifting its embassy to Jerusalem has again poked mass protests. Even the European Union is against the move.

However, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, who is positive about the decision, said: “I call on all countries to join the US in moving their embassies to Jerusalem. It’s the right thing to do… because it advances peace.”

The US President Donald Trump won’t be physically attending the ceremony. But he will be addressing the ceremony through a video link. Apart from Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the ceremony will also be attended by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan. Ambassadors and representatives from Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic are expected to attend the ceremony. Adding to the list are the presidents of Guatemala and Paraguay. There are chances that both the nations will shift their respective embassies to Jerusalem.
